so what do you guys think about accents and dialects? why do u think people think that other people think that the way that someone might speak is the proper way to speak? there's no proper way to speak!
I think that people think there is a proper way to speak as they have spoken like that all their life! So that's really all they hear around them so they don't really have any other influence from other accents. And also quite a lot of television shows or movies would have people in it saying to speak 'proper' and they are probably referring to a 'posh' way to speak.
I think that people nowadays are very narrowminded- if its not an accent from where you come from, some people just dont want to know. I agree compleatly with you, that there is no 'proper' way to speak. If you come from the north, you speak with a northen accent and Dialect. If you come from wales, you have a welsh a+d and so on. People in maidenhead have Maidonian accents and dialect. Thats simply how we speak, without speaking about it. Its like people from Glasgow has Glasweian (sp?) accents and dialect- they dont think twice about speaking the way they do. Krista (sorry, my computers playing up and may post me as anon. instead.)
I think when people live in a town or city all there life they will belive they are speaking the proper way but there is no proper way to speak and there is no proper way say words. However, when we go away from our town or city, for instance up north, we would think they are speaking with an accent but they would think we are speaking with an accent. Also some people think that the queen speeks proper English ,but, she doesnt she just speaks that way because it is where she is from. Over all, there is no proper way to speak or say things.
I think most people think there is a proper way to speak because the language they think is proper is they way the person says it,so everyone is different and there isn't a proper way of saying anything it's just where the person is from, there accents and dialects, some people may pronounce things differently, like how Krista said Berkshire differently to the rest of the class and we immediately corrected her!
I agree.People may think the 'posh' way to talk is the proper way to talk but in the end there is no such thing as a 'proper' way to talk or even just one way to talk.
I think that thet there is no proper way of speaking, people think that the way they speak is 'proper' becaause they haven't put much thought into what other people might think about thier accent or dialect. I think the poem is written the way it's written because I think it's meant to look like the screen that news reporters read off .
